About Primary
Our Primary program is designed to ensure that each child is known, supported and inspired through personalised learning, hands-on exploration and a rich range of opportunities that nurture both confidence and curiosity.
Our Primary program (Kindergarten to Year 6) offers far more than just a strong academic foundation. It’s a place where children are known, nurtured, and inspired to explore their world with wonder and confidence.
We believe that every child is unique, and learning should reflect that. Our passionate and experienced teachers create individualised learning plans tailored to each student’s strengths, interests, and needs. Through intentional teaching and strong pastoral care, we guide every child to thrive both academically and personally.
At MACC, the classroom extends far beyond four walls. Our outdoor learning environments encourage students to explore, discover, and connect with nature as part of their everyday learning. Whether they’re investigating natural science outdoors, creating art inspired by the landscape, or simply playing and imagining under the open sky, these experiences build resilience, creativity and curiosity.
We also embrace a play-based learning approach, particularly in the early years. Through hands-on exploration, purposeful play, and inquiry-based activities, children build strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development.
At MACC, we are proud to offer a rich and diverse curriculum supported by dedicated specialist teachers in key areas:
- Physical Education & Sport: Our students participate in weekly PE sessions and sporting activities led by a specialist PE teacher, focusing on physical development, teamwork, coordination, and confidence. MACC also offers opportunities to represent the school in a range of sporting events at the local, state and national level.
- Music: With a specialist Music teacher, students are introduced to rhythm, melody, instruments, and creative expression. Music education builds not only artistic skills but also concentration, collaboration and self-expression.
These specialist programs enhance our whole-child approach, developing physical, creative, and emotional wellbeing alongside academic progress.
MACC is set in a beautiful, nature-rich campus that supports both learning and play. Students enjoy flexible classroom spaces, a purpose-built Multi-Purpose Hall for sports and performances, and abundant outdoor areas for exploration and recreation. Highlights for our students include our popular Plaza and the much loved Bush Play and Tinkerground areas.
As part of a Prep to Year 12 College, our Primary students have access to specialist Secondary facilities, including Science labs, Food Technology kitchens, and Design and Technology facilities, allowing them to experience high-quality, hands-on learning from an early age.
Our Agriculture program used in the Secondary school also affords wonderful opportunities for our younger students to engage with animals and is affectionately known as the MACC Farm.
Every classroom is equipped with modern technology including interactive whiteboards in K-2, Vivi TV’s, iPads and laptops to support digital literacy and engage learners in meaningful ways.

What makes Primary great
At MACC, we actively seek opportunities to incorporate play-based approaches across the NSW Curriculum from Kindergarten to Year 6. We believe that learning through play encourages creativity, critical thinking, and deeper engagement with key concepts. Whether it’s exploring mathematical patterns with manipulatives, role-playing in literacy, or investigating scientific ideas through hands-on discovery, play enhances understanding in meaningful ways.
Our dedicated Beyond Play program was developed by our talented MACC teachers in Kindergarten to Year 2. Beyond Play occurs twice per week and focuses on purposeful, play-based learning that supports key areas of development. Students engage in literacy, Tinkertime (STEM), outdoor exploration, and creative activities designed to build confidence, curiosity, and foundational skills. This approach ensures deep engagement and meaningful learning aligned with the NSW Curriculum.
We believe that outdoor learning plays a vital role in nurturing the whole child, socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. In a world increasingly dominated by screens, we offer a rich educational experience that reconnects students with the natural world. Research consistently shows that time outdoors enhances creativity, builds resilience, reduces stress, and improves focus, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. At MACC, nature becomes the classroom, supporting deeper learning and lifelong wellbeing.
Our expansive 37-acre campus is designed to inspire curiosity and exploration through purpose-built outdoor learning environments. From our Bush Play area and nature-based art spaces to Mud Kitchens and Garden Beds, students engage in hands-on, imaginative play while developing teamwork and critical thinking skills. The Loose Parts Tinkerground encourages children to create, experiment and solve problems using natural and recycled materials, transforming play into powerful learning.
MACC is proud to lead the way in outdoor education. By combining innovative spaces with intentional teaching, we ensure students learn in dynamic environments that build both academic achievement and life skills. Through these authentic, nature-rich experiences, our students grow not only as learners, but as confident, capable individuals connected to the world around them.
At Mount Annan Christian College, we are committed to delivering a high-quality academic program that supports every student to reach their full potential. Our approach to teaching and learning is intentional, structured, and grounded in evidence-based practices. We utilise explicit direct instruction, including the “I do, We do, You do” model, to ensure students are clearly guided through new concepts before gradually moving towards independent mastery. This approach provides clarity, confidence, and a solid foundation in each subject area, particularly in the early years of schooling. We also include regular opportunities for retrieval practice in student learning, which strengthens memory and understanding by regularly recalling information, thereby improving long term memory retention and deeper understanding.
A key component of our Literacy program is the use of the PLD (Promoting Literacy Development) phonics and spelling program. PLD provides a structured and sequential approach to developing the core skills for our students to become confident spellers, readers and writers. It allows teachers to target instruction to individual student needs, ensuring a personalised learning experience that builds essential literacy foundations across all year levels.
At MACC, academic excellence is balanced with a nurturing and supportive environment. Our goal is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to succeed, not only in the classroom but in all areas of life. Through a thoughtful blend of explicit instruction and active, hands-on learning, we help each child thrive and develop a lifelong love of learning.
