About Prep

Here at MACC we offer a preparatory year in which students establish the foundations to thrive in their formal school years and enjoy learning for the rest of their lives.

The Prep program has been uniquely designed to reflect a strong emphasis on play based learning, critical for young children, in a balanced program and timetable allowing plenty of time for children to engage in open ended, child directed play, with structured lessons involving explicit and intentional teaching. MACC Prep is the perfect environment to prepare children the year before formal schooling, whilst still fostering learning through developmentally appropriate early childhood teaching and learning methods.

Why Prep at MACC?

An in-school transition to Kindergarten program, immersing children within the school environment in a safe and secure setting. Children can begin kindergarten with an established, strong sense of security in their environment.

A custom syllabus written specifically for MACC, combining the Early Years Learning Framework (national curriculum for early learning centres) with the NSW Early Stage 1 syllabus.

A stepping stone between home/preschool/daycare and kindergarten, which combines the Play-Based approach of early years learning, with clear routines, structure and explicit teaching toward Kindergarten.

What makes Prep great

Play-Based learning is at the heart of the early learning experience, providing children with rich opportunities to discover, create, imagine, improvise and collaborate in meaningful ways. Through purposeful play, children are encouraged to ask questions, solve problems and engage in critical thinking as they explore the world around them. Our MACC Play Based approach in Prep nurtures curiosity and a genuine love of learning, while also supporting the development of memory, language, social skills and emotional regulation. By engaging in open-ended play experiences, Our Prep students build confidence to take risks, negotiate ideas, explore possibilities and create meaning, laying strong foundations for future academic success and lifelong learning.

Teachers intentionally introduce new skills, concepts and ways of thinking that encourage curiosity, creativity and higher-order thinking. Learning experiences are thoughtfully planned in response to each child’s interests, strengths and emerging abilities, allowing children to feel both supported and inspired as they grow in confidence and understanding.

Prep educators skilfully balance responsive teaching with intentional instruction, creating an environment where exploration and explicit learning work hand in hand. Purposeful interactions, guided conversations and thoughtfully planned opportunities for knowledge-building enable children to deepen their understanding and make meaningful connections in their learning. This intentional approach ensures that every child is nurtured academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually, building strong foundations for future learning and lifelong success.

Christian Studies is woven thoughtfully throughout every aspect of learning, with Christ at the centre of the educational experience. Children are nurtured in a warm and faith-filled environment where they are encouraged to grow in their understanding of God’s love and develop a strong spiritual foundation. Through the integration of Biblical perspectives across all learning areas, children begin to see the world through an eternal lens, discovering how faith shapes their relationships, choices and understanding of the world around them. Educators intentionally and sensitively guide children in learning about Jesus through Bible stories, worship, prayer, Christian discussions and meaningful everyday moments that inspire curiosity, wonder and spiritual growth.
