Ignite at MACC

At MACC, we recognise the unique needs of academically gifted and high potential students and provide tailored strategies to ensure their talents are nurtured and maximised. The IGNITE Program offers an engaging, challenging, and stimulating environment designed to inspire advanced learners through curriculum differentiation, accelerated progression, and extension activities.

Students are identified through a comprehensive and ongoing process that includes ability testing, teacher nominations, academic performance data, and consideration of individual learning characteristics.

This comprehensive process ensures we can recognise and nurture gifted learners across multiple domains, including students whose exceptional potential may not yet be fully demonstrated through academic achievement alone. The program provides opportunities for students to think critically, solve complex problems, pursue their passions, and engage in authentic, high-level learning experiences.

Through IGNITE, students are empowered to develop confidence, creativity, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning. Each year, IGNITE students participate in a special showcase that celebrates their learning journey, providing opportunities to demonstrate their talents, share innovative projects, and highlight their unique strengths as learners.

Ignite in Primary

The Primary IGNITE Program provides gifted and high potential students with a rich and challenging learning environment that extends beyond the standard curriculum.

Students identified for the program participate in dedicated Stage 2 and Stage 3 IGNITE classes where learning is differentiated, compacted, and enriched to meet their advanced learning needs. The program promotes higher-order thinking, creativity, inquiry-based learning, independence, and intellectual risk-taking across English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, HSIE, and STEM. Students also have access to a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including Science Fair projects, Mathematics Olympiads, the Da Vinci Decathlon, academic competitions, university partnerships, and inter-school challenges. Individual strengths and interests are nurtured through open-ended learning experiences, research projects, and innovative problem-solving tasks. Our goal is to ensure every student is appropriately challenged and inspired to achieve their personal best.

Ignite in Secondary

In Secondary , the IGNITE Program continues to challenge and extend gifted and high potential learners through differentiated curriculum and advanced learning opportunities.

Students in Years 7 and 8 may be selected for specialised extension classes in English, Mathematics, and Science, where learning is delivered at an accelerated pace and with greater depth and complexity. Teachers provide targeted differentiation to encourage critical thinking, creativity, and independent learning while fostering academic excellence. Students are also encouraged to participate in a broad range of academic competitions and enrichment programs, including ICAS, Mathematics Olympiads, debating, science and engineering challenges, writing competitions, and the Da Vinci Decathlon. These experiences allow students to collaborate with like-minded peers, apply their knowledge in authentic contexts, and develop leadership and problem-solving skills.
