English
The College aspires to provide a Christ-centred learning environment that empowers each individual to enjoy a life of purpose.
The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) outlines several National Professional Standards for teachers that encompass the nature of quality teaching and learning environments. These standards include:
- Know students and how they learn
- Know the content and how to teach it
- Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning
- Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments
- Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning
- Engage in professional learning
- Engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community
Therefore, the English programs within Mount Annan Christian College deliver enriching learning experiences. Each program targets a diversity of learning needs and abilities with the goal of helping each student reach their full academic potential.
Students studying English are given opportunities to think critically, discern new ideas and reflect on their own learning for future improvement. The Faculty upholds a strong focus on grammar, reading and comprehension as well as writing. Additionally, the College has adopted two central technological based approaches to equip students with better English skills. ‘Edrolo’ is specifically designed to provide additional support to HSC English students with online tutorials targeted to the HSC English Syllabus. ‘Education Perfect’ is an online educational tool that provides students and teachers with extensive resources covering a number of reading and writing skills for our junior students. With the introduction of the ‘BYOD’ (Bring Your Own Device) program, the English programs are adaptive to incorporating the safe use of ICT, as required by the NSW English Curriculum.
